King es un mercenario veterano que/should retire after developing cyberpsicosis, and now tries to live away from the implants that defined him. D is a netrunner looking for revenge after the death of his clan. Talia is a teenager obsessed with cybernetic modifications, while Roman, 12 years old, walks around with a camera recording the everyday brutality of the city.

La ciudad vuelve a funcionar como una alarm clock with no snooze: megacorporations, corruption and street gangs determine how people live. The series uses that setting to ask a rather nasty question: how much of being human can you replace, piece by piece, before the person underneath stops being recognizable?

On the technical side, Studio Trigger raises the bar. The opening explodes into action, and the animation, direction and fight choreography are the strongest features of this new installment. It is also more violent and explicit than the first season. In other words: yes, the neon is brighter, but the knives are sharper too.

El problema es el ritmo

The first half feels fragmented because the four plots take their time to meet. Some characters arrive defined more by their design than by their development, while the convergence only kicks in during the second half. The anthology format, with different protagonists in each episode, works as a door to more stories in the same universe, but it also makes the initial hook harder.

My verdict: it earns the wait. The visual proposal surpasses the first season, and the reflection about identity, technology and human limits lands with more force once the threads come together. It is not a story for anyone looking for a simple hero; it is a sharp, brutal and very stylish trip through Night City.
